For his part, Richomme is currently experiencing these difficulties, which has reduced the distance between them from 130 to 78 miles. Dalin is expected to extend his lead again in the coming hours. According to weather consultant Christian Dumard, the final stage will depend on speed, strategic decisions, the boat’s endurance, and the mental fortitude of the sailors.

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="wp-image-13186 size-full" src="https://www.forumnautico.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/VendeeGlobe2024_02.webp" alt="RACE, JANUARY 7, 2025: Photo sent from the Fortinet - Best Western boat during the Vendée Globe sailing race on January 7, 2025. I didn’t sleep much last night due to a storm that blocked my route; the winds were unstable in strength and direction. But I’ll get through them soon. The race will be decided by a combination of factors: the weather situation, the state of the boat, traffic management, and the skippers’ ability to make the right decisions. It’s quite intense, the pressure is constant, but that’s part of the game. All the sailors who come to the Vendée Globe with sporting ambitions would dream of being in our position. I’m enjoying it a lot; I’m more relaxed and under less pressure than four years ago. And we mustn’t forget that what we’re doing is just a game.”

— Charlie Dalin, MACIF Santé Prévoyance

Situation of the Chasers in the Vendée Globe 2024

Sébastien Simon, on the Groupe Dubreuil, solid in 3rd position, is preparing to pass through northeastern Brazil and face the doldrums with a route further west than the leading duo. He is not threatened by the group of seven boats that, 1,200 miles further south, are fighting to enter the “top 10”.
