17\/05\/2025, Split (Croatia)<\/strong> \u2013 Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona have been crowned European Olympic sailing champions in the Mixed 470 class<\/strong>, in a brilliant start to their Olympic campaign towards Los Angeles 2028<\/strong>. The Spanish pair secured gold with authority, dominating the championship from day one and finishing with an impressive 37-point lead over the runners-up, Britain\u2019s Martin Wrigley and Bettine Harris.<\/p>\n

In just 40 days of sailing together, Xammar and Cardona have shown outstanding chemistry. With a second place in the Medal Race, they sealed an impeccable regatta in Croatian waters, closing their third international competition together after the Princess Sofia Trophy (sixth) and the French Olympic Week (silver).<\/p>\n

Total dominance in Split<\/h3>\n

The Catalan-Mallorcan duo, representing the Olympic team of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, led the overall standings from Monday and maintained enviable consistency across the 12 races, with results of 4 firsts, 4 seconds, 1 third, 1 fourth, and 1 sixth, plus a discard. A performance that earned them the European title with a remarkable margin against a top-level international fleet. <\/p>\n

Olympic careers and projection
\nJordi Xammar<\/strong> (Barcelona, 1993) has now claimed his second consecutive European gold<\/strong> after the one achieved in 2024 with Nora Brugman. A bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, he has four medals in 470 World Championships and six podium finishes in European Championships.<\/p>\n

Marta Cardona<\/strong> (Palma, 2005), youth world and European champion in 420, and medalist at the Youth Sailing World Championship<\/strong>, makes the definitive leap to the Mixed 470 after competing in the 49er FX, marking a new milestone in her young and promising career.<\/p>\n
